the UNSETTLED TEXT PROJECT is based in dallas, texas, and houses the REFUGEE WRITERS program. we work to empower refugees to tell and find readership for their own stories and views by connecting them with writers and translators. we believe that enabling refugees to find their voice and actively contribute to their communities can not only be transformative for everyone involved, but transformative for their readers and communities. more than raising awareness about refugees we build personal connections and lasting friendships.

we're new and still experimenting with organizational models and practices. but down the road we envision gaining non-profit status, housing our own quarterly journal, and facilitating conversations amongst refugees, journalists, academics, informed-citizens, and policy makers.

we exist to empower refugees to speak for themselves and to actively contribute to their surrounding communities by helping them find their voice and giving them an audience.
